Welcome to the new Southern Comforts Animal Rescue website!

Southern Comforts non-profit 501(c)(3) that is a Texas based rescue group dedicated to rescuing dogs from local kill shelters. Once out of the shelter we place them into foster homes where they are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, vaccinated, de-wormed, heartworm tested and treated if found to be positive. While in their foster homes they are evaluated for the homes they would be best to be placed in. Seeing if they are good with children, other dogs, cats, needing someone with them most of the time or independent enough to entertain themselves till their families return home from work. If not housebroke we work on crate training along with housebreaking. The more we know about our rescues the better chance we can find the perfect home for them.

We work closely with a number of local shelters in going in to take good pictures of the dogs in their shelters for them to post locally increasing their chances of finding home and for us to post for adoption up north. The important thing being they get out of the shelters and into the safety and love of their forever homes. As space opens in our foster homes the dog is pulled from the shelter and kept in foster homes a minimum of 2 weeks, while we learn more about the dog while getting the vetting done.

We post our dogs with The Chi Society of Ct. where we take applications, and search for perfect homes for our rescues in the New England States. Due to the lax spay/neuter laws in Texas our shelters are always at full capacity. It is a constant race to get the dogs in need out of the shelters and into foster homes before they are euthanized because of overcrowding. The Chi Society has graciously offered to help us in our endeavor to get as many dogs posted for adoption as possible and help in working our adoptions from their end in Connecticut.

Although the name is new to the Chi Society website we have been working in tandem for the last year while with another rescue group.  A few of us have broken away and started our own rescue group to work solely with The Chi Society. Over the last year we have adopted hundreds of our rescues through this alliance and hope to continue to do so till the spay neuter laws change in Texas and there are no more dogs in danger sitting in shelters.
